OK, I like Craig David. I loved his work with the Artful Dodger, and Re Wind is one of my favorite songs ever (although, it was more of an Artful Dodger track rather than Craig David – 2step garage is my favorite style of music ever). I loved his first album, liked his second and his third wasn’t bad. I haven’t heard his fourth. And I went to see him in concert when he played in Canberra some years ago.
But for the life of me, I cant understand why Hot Stuff was sent as a promo record to ITM. What was the label thinking? The lyrics “Lets Dance” sampled from some old disco tune do not make a dance song. And, putting the acapella over the instrumental of World Hold On by Bob Sinclair doesn’t make it a dance song.
The Touche and Chase & Status mixes aren’t too bad, with the grounded in house music and the latter a vaguely electro house remix. The Dark Star remix is just horrible, trying to be a gangsta rap song, with a Jamaican man rapping also.
The original of this song isn’t too bad: it’s a fine pop radio song (with a short lifespan), but I expected something more from Craig David. And I really can’t say much about this record. It’s not really a dance song, none of the remixes are that fantastic, the World Hold On version is just appalling, and this song has no real appeal. I think that maybe, it just sucks. A lot. Avoid.
