Norweigian duo Datarock (Fredrik Saroea and Ket-Ill) have released a new promo EP celebrating the success of their single Fa Fa Fa, with swag of mixes from the likes of Riton, Torske and Shakes, with bonus a exclusive remix from GT’s new project. Fa Fa Fa was the infectious first single from the band’s self titled album, and it got these guys noticed around the world upon its original release. With its pairing up of dance-rock drums with funk-strummed guitars, the track has had punters singing along for years. With a few new remixes we’re bound to see this track hit the clubs once again this summer.

For a disc with seven versions of the same track it does pretty well to keep bringing something different to the table. GT’s Jump Jump Dance Dance Remix is stripped right back and dominated by the fuzz of an already funked-up bassline. Taking very little of the original track is the Riton New School Remix, what it does take is left behind after the ten second mark. It gets very KLF with its relentless trancy/electro pulse. The Riton Turbo Disco Remix is pretty much as stated, very similar to the previous mix but with a little more disco drive.

The distinct 80s glam flavour of the Skateboard Remix builds up some momentum in its seven and a half minutes, but disappointingly it never really goes anywhere. The Torske Remix takes dance-rock and makes it straight disco funk driven by Hammond keys. It puts emphasis on the already funky guitars to make this remix the pick of the bunch for me. Slapping on the industrial beeps and blips with a driving electro beat, the Shakes Remix turns the relatively tame original track into a late night stomper.

If you liked the original version you’ll dig this EP. It’s 45 minutes of embellishment and reworking that brings together some great results.
