Hospital Records sixth installation of its mix series is the standard quality one would come to expect from the label. It contains a mix of some older tunes, some released tunes and some yet to be released all put together by Cyantific, who also put together number #4 in this series. It’s full on from the get go with a cut from Hospital’s favourite son High Contrast’s latest album, as the first track that slides smoothly into one of my favourite tracks from last year’s Weapons of Mass Creation release Space Between from Apex feat. Ayah. Instantly you know that this is not a kicking back at home mix, it’s a full on energetic, colorful rolling mix.

It’s easy to hear why Cyantific won last years ‘Best Breakthrough’ DJ award (though to be honest you’d be stretching it a bit to label him as a newcomer), the mixing is supremely tight and guides the listener through the tunes perfectly. Of course the label has included a number of unreleased tracks in the mix as a teaser, and some of these are the best tracks on the mix, in particular Blame’s Hindsight. This tune harks back to his early sounds and anyone who loves that early atmospheric drum and bass will love this tune. Another favourite is the winning combination of Nu:Tone and Natalie Williams as remixed by Matrix and Futurebound, much like Seven Years its the perfect balance between sweet vocals and dirty disco drum and bass sounds.

There are many flawless sections of this mix, for instance Mermaid’s Muffler follows on beautifully from High Contrast’s anthemic If We Ever, which then gives way to Danny Bryd’s old school jungle track Shock Out.
Another favourite in the mix is Mitsabishi’s No Matter What, a super sweet tune with a bit of a nasty (but good) twist to it. Finishing up the mix is Calibre’s remix of High Contrast’s Everything’s Different, yet another match made in drum n’ bass heaven. The remix features that classic Calibre keyboard sound running through, with that underlying bittersweet flavour to the melody.

I got hooked on drum n’ bass by listening to Hospital mixes, and this latest edition to the catalogue is sure to win new fans, and be enjoyed by established ones!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
