Originally a Brissie girl, I remember catching Bexta pumping it out at warehouse raves back in the late 90s, and playing her then banging hard house sound. She’s come a long way since then, and has recently transformed herself into more than just a hard dance DJ/ producer – she’s a pop star too! Exploding back onto the scene, recently touring the country for her 10th installment of her infamous Mixiology mix series, and now she’s released this radio-friendly dance numbe, V.I.P.
Very different to Bexta’s usual sound and favour, V.I.P is a poppy vocal track with an electro edge. It features vocalist Amii Jackson who also features on a 2007 Mixology Digital release Star Rider by JvE, and the single also represents a collaboration with ex Pseudo Echo front man Brian Canham.
The single features a whooping 6 mixes, but there is not a lot of variation between them except for one thing – some are for radio friendly and some are for the club. As mentioned before, the radio mix is a pop dance mix with hints of electro and attempts not to be cheesy, but it is pop, so naturally it has a cheese favour to it. The club versions are made into trance versions with repetitive vocal lines and big build ups that will get the crowd reaching for lasers. Bexta’s StarGarden mix has a bigger trance twist on the original, and is sure to be heard when she plays at StarGarden at The Viper Room in Melbourne on Friday when she guests regularly. Mixology Digital label mate Patrik Carrera lends a hand with this his Paranoid ReRub mix – a relaxed tech trance production that is more for the Sunday session than the big club moments.
Good to see Bexta evolving with the sounds of now and proving that she isn’t just the ‘Queen of Hard Dance’ anymore. This graduate of the QLD Conservatorium of Music is showing us that her musical skills are much broader than we may have originally thought! Hopefully this single will bring more mainstream attention to Bexta – something she definitely deserves.
