If you like your music truly varied, with the funky sound of deepest darkest Africa combined with some beautiful samba sounds from Brazil, then this CD should see your hneeds satiated with some extraordinary performances. The brain child of Brazilian Otto Nascarella, this is a truly powerful form of music that seduces the listener with some dynamic funk akin to James Brown and dare I say it, George Clinton. And it also provides some scintillating Latin beats.
The lyrics are all in Portuguese, so it may be an acquired taste for some, but it gives the listener a beautiful if not humorous insight into the Brazilian Favelas. Lines such as, “Some people accept drinks from strangers and wake up the next morning missing a kidney,” are indicative of the humour that pervades Brazilian life, and when spoken in the original Portuguese are raw and powerful whilst remaining darkly humorous.
If you like music from another place, where life hangs by a thread but which can still inspire you to maintain the rage and to dance your life into existence, then this is the album for you. Highly recommended for those that love music like the Afro/Cuban sound that came out of the Caribbean after The Buena Vista Social Club exposed that vast untapped musical reservoir. Loved it!
