When we talk about house divas or disco queens, arguably there is only one that sits atop any list that you want to make. That is the woman they call Donna Summer. She has perhaps THE voice that is best suited to the dance floor. Here, her vocal musings of I’m A Fire get given the treatment on no less than eight remixes.
Soul Conspiracy have two goes at reworking the original and although they may not be heavy enough for some, the vocals just blow you away and let your feet move to a better place. Basically that is what can be said about all the remixes here. They tweak and retouch but fortunately do not detract from Donna’s sublime vocal.
The mixes from Craig C and Redtop deliver that more modern electro feel to the song, while Rocasound, Lost Daze and Solitaire all give the song a more than passable workout. Maybe because this is a Donna Summer track, the crop of producers rolled out to give their reinterpretations didn’t want to stretch the friendship too much. Whatever their reasons for staying faithful to the Donna Summer sound, it’s not a bad thing because a world without Donna Summer is a world without joy.
I really liked this track as you can most probably tell. It may cut up the dancefloor given the right introduction (and the proper respect it deserves), but I’d recommend making an effort to search it out and listen to it. When a queen sings a song, her kingdom should always listen.
