Right, so I like Bar Grooves, I like the whole Defected vibe in general but so often there’s cookie cutter tracks rolled out and more often than not the cutter is somewhat blunt through over-use – resulting in some pretty ordinary cookies! First up on this one we’ve got the Baggi Begovic & Soul Conspiracy mix – very middle of the road, nothing particularly interesting or different done here. Moving on to The Cube Guys’ remix, trying to take this sort of track into more electro territory = nah in general, and this is no exception. Skip their dub too.
So somewhat uninspired I move onto the Bobby Blanco Block Re-Edit. Nice long percussion-fuelled intro. Working away in the back ground, and then the piano chords start to emerge. Sweet, now I’m paying full attention, rewind a couple of minutes and turn up the volume. This is nice, really nice, very old schooled in it’s vibe, achieved mainly through the use of the heavy drum track. That piano and then the vocal really set it off nicely and turn this into a very likely anthem, expect to hear this in all the cool places!
David Morales turns in a Club, Dub and Reprise Mix. The Club mix is very old school, a nice deep warm synth bass line, old school vibed hats and clap all come together nicely to turn this into something that definitely sounds more like a Sound Factory anthem. His dub focuses on these elements and strips it all back, throwing in some very twisted lines and keeping it very dubby all the way. So many nods to the old school here it’s crazy – but the good sort! His Reprise is a more melodic affair, lead by the killer piano riff and the vox and pretty much holding that tone for the entire thing. Overall, hats of to Morales and Bobby Blanco, nice track!
