So we’ve waited longer in Australia for this than a working model of a Collins class submarine, but only just. The Shapeshifters switch from EMI to Defected had left us lamenting their absence from the dance music scene, but this is the offering that they have chosen to tempt us with prior to their album release. First up, despite being one of their biggest fans, I can only say that this delivers more a whimper than a full on banging set of house tracks.

The two tracks Chime and Treadstone have been around for some time on their MySpace, and I would have expected something with a little more power from the London based duo. Both tracks filter through a fluttery landscape and the word ‘pretty’ comes to mind when describing the overall theme of the track. However, neither scale any great heights. Both tracks build and build and just when you expect something awe-inspiring to drop in, the tracks return to their original build without seeming to finish of the foundations.

If I were to suggest anything to the doyens of party house, it would be the addition of a vocal, which Treadstone in particular is begging for. This is not so much as a main room filler but more of a nightclub soundtrack. After waiting so long for some new material, I was expecting something which was going to take me to new heights rather than retread some rather common ground. Perhaps the album will be something different all together. Here’s hoping!
