First new release for 2008 from Joof Recordings is from Swedish duo Vibrasphere. After their last album, Exploring The Tributaries took a slightly different approach to what they are known for, this single does a good job of reminding us exactly of the top quality trance they can put out. The package includes the Original Mix and remixes from Alucard and Oliver Prime.
The Original Mix – after the more experimental Exploring The Tributaries album we get this great trance track. It is really pumping after a short intro and has a nice catchy melody that comes in after some contrasting brooding sounds. When I listen to the Archipelago album it really makes me think of being out in the wilderness or on a beach somewhere, and chatting with a friend of mine about this track confirmed the feeling. There is just something about their style that takes you away. They manage to combine the best elements of progressive, uplifting and psychedelic trance in one great tune. It is fast and full of energy but still seems laid back and summery. Too bad it’s winter here for us!
Canadian producer Alucard takes things down ever so slightly in terms of BPM, but his remix manages to seem slightly more epic somehow in the breakdowns. Compared to the original mix this might be a more straight forward sounding tune, such as what Armin van Buuren or Markus Schultz might play but that doesn’t mean it isn’t as good. The introduction of a small vocal sample is a nice touch and matches the overall feel of the tune while the acid really comes alive in the second half. Very nice job!
Taking a completely different approach, Oliver Prime’s remix is really very trippy and driving. The intro alone goes for two minutes, it’s like you are listening to a sci fi movie before the beats kick in. The incorporation of the melody is a lot more subtle in this than the Alucard remix but there are enough hints of the original throughout. Compared to the other mixes this is more dark and twisted, especially with the pounding bass, and takes away the summery feel, which provides an alternative. Probably my favourite of this release.
With this being apparently played by everyone from Astrix, Infected Mushroom to Paul van Dyk and Above & Beyond, there should be something for everyone here in this great release.
