The Ting Tings are an electro-pop band on the rise. They have had a UK #1 single and their debut album ‘We Started Nothing’ also launched into the top 30 here. Not bad for a duo that have only been together for around a year. They are getting big props on the festival circuit, playing Glastonbury late last month. They’ve had some great remixes done of their tracks. Calvin Harris did a top class rework for ‘Great DJ’, and here Tom Neville has followed in similar fashion with ‘That’s Not My Name’.
Neville is a top quality DJ in my eyes. Here he puts out two great mixes of a catchy indie pop track. His ‘Nameless Vocal Mix’ is superb, bringing an entirely new feeling to the track. It has a very nice beat and he keeps it simple, never going overboard. Likewise, the ‘Vocal Dub’ has a slightly harder edge to it, but it’s also superb and – more importantly – very pleasing to the ear. On the other hand, the Soulseeker mixes arent that special… pretty ordinary, in fact. It’s flat sounding electro house and really lacks the quality that Neville had injected into his mixes. It doesnt have the same quality to it, just a very bland taste overall. If I had to choose a mix from them it would be the ‘Dirty Dub Vox Mix’, but it’s definitely the best of a very ordinary bunch.
Tom Neville in top form on this release, and for that reason only I give it 7/10.
