When first looking at the artwork for this release, you’d have no idea what to expect. But as soon as you stick it in your CD player, you’d realise this isn’t your typical ‘chill’ compilation. Verve is a series of classic tunes remixed by some of todays biggest names. Don’t be expecting your bog standard house rerubs though; this CD maintains it’s chilled status with most tracks not going a single beat over 110 BPB.
Verve Remixed 4 will take you down memory lane and introduce you to some classic gems you’ve yet to discover, with all tracks remixed, tweaked and sounding great. Definitely great for chillin by the poolside or kicking back on the couch. Standout tracks include the Mike Mangini remix of Nina Simone Gimme Some, which gives the original just a little more life without going over the top. The Diplo remix of Marlena Shaw California Soul brings attention back to the original which has been sampled many times over since its release. The disc ends with the absolute classic I Get a Kick Out Of You by Ella Fitzgerald, remixed by Cinematic Orchestra.
Verve Remixed 4 is unique in that your Grandparents will love as it’s very easy on the ears, and the remixes remain faithful to the original versions, whilst younger listeners will appreciate the remix talents of some very big names including Kenny Dope, Mike Mangini, the afore mentioned Diplo and more. If you find it a little to mellow for your liking then I’d recommend listening to the original Verve Remixed as it’s a little more upbeat; Verve Remixed 4 definitely finds itself placed in the ‘chill’ genre.
