Cry For You has been a massive hit for September, reaching top 5 in the UK as well as going #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart in the US and top 10 in many countries across Europe. It’s now hit the top 20 here in Australia, so there’s no denying it’s a worldwide smash. It certainly is a catchy little tune, sampling the riff from Bronski Beat’s _Smalltown BoyP, the same one used by Supermode for Tell Me Why a few years back. It is very commercial, and as a result some would say cheesy, but some of the mixes here are interesing.
Darren Styles adds his hardcore touch to the track, which is not bad if you’re into that kind of thing. The Dave Ramone mix is a more house based affair and probably the favourite for me. The Candlelight mix is very mellow and almost like a ballad, proving that the girl can certainly sing. I think we’ll be hearing more from September, especially consdering how much European crowds seem to love this kind of music. It’s nice to listen to occasionally, but it’s not something I’d be craving on a regular basis.
