Continuing the success of his geographically inspired mix compilations, Tiësto takes us to the Far East this time with the seventh release in his seminal In Search of Sunrise series. In Search Of Sunrise 7: Asia was mixed and recorded in Thailand and captures the peaceful and passionate attitudes of locals Tiësto encountered during his tour through the region this spring. With past stops in Latin America, Los Angeles and last year’s Ibiza, Tiësto shows that Asia also gave him the inspiration to deliver a brand new, double-disc mix compilation.

Disc One, as Tiësto himself puts it, “will dwell on the easy going ambience and overwhelming beauty of the Asia continent.” That sums it up pretty nicely. Tiësto opens the mix in ambient fashion with the aptly-named Feel The Sun Rise by Banyan Tree. It immediately conjures an image of lush tropical jungle in the middle of remote parts of Thailand. Early on, Tiësto lays down some lush, bubbly progressive house that takes you deeper into the rainforest. The sound would be not too far out of place at an infamous half-moon party in Thailand’s legendary Koh Phangan – where progressive, tribal and psy-trance are so highly revered.

Moving from ambient progressive house and dubby tribal beats, Tiësto moves into some luscious progressive trance in the middle of the mix. A standout is Jerry Ropero’s The Storm ( Inpetto remix), featuring the angelic vocals of Cozi. While the early stanzas of the mix are of the highest possible ilk, Tiësto takes it to a whole new stratosphere, with the highlight being the Kyau & Albert remix of Cressida6AM. Expect this track to feature heavily in the sets of prog heavyweights like Sasha, Digweed and Dave Seaman, through to the trance superstars PvD, Armin and Tiësto himself. Tiësto closes the mix with the inspired single Hua-Hin by Clouded Leopard; named after Hua-Hin, the popular and downright gorgeous Thailand tourist spot.

Tiësto promises “the second disc will focus on the incredible energy of the Asian people I felt during the live sets throughout the Asian tour”. Following the introductory track Blossom by Steve Forte Rio featuring JES, Tiësto immediately stamps his authority with big room trancer Crossroads by Zoo Brasil. From here there’s no respite, as Tiësto spends the next 70-odd minutes delivering a seamless trip through the finest trance cuts available. Towards the middle of the mix Tiësto, for the only time on this album, gives one of his own productions some airplay: the Mat Zo remix of his pulsating trance release Driving To Heaven.

In summary, this is a true master-class from one of the world’s elite DJ-producers. Tiësto truly is an expert at creating and representing the sound of his chosen region, and Asia is no different. Tiësto may have slipped in the past two years to number 2 and 3 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Poll, but In Search of Sunrise 7: Asia reaffirms the class of Breda’s most famous export.

Awesome review cruisysloth! :) It is taking a bit of time getting into both discs of this album for me, but your review might well provide a new found appreciation for ISOS 7.

Have just got back to aus after a 6 night epic adventure in ibiza, 2nd yr in a row. Saw tiesto on the monday at priveleg and he smashed it. New fresh music and ISOS7 featured heavily in his set. Was so nice to see new fresh tune and euro sets destroy what we get in aus. There was no tiesto back catalogue and credit to him for not doing so. Saw him in aus in april and Tiesto in his element in ibiza was 10 fold - enjoy :)

Gizer79 - totally agree with your comments. I saw him at Privilege about 4 weeks ago and i couldn't have been happier with his set - none of the old classics we hear all too often (but still appreciate) but heaps of fresh tunes, totally love the fact he's using Feel the sun rise to open all his sets. It didnt take me long to get into ISOS 7 at all...to me it's probably my favourite out of the ISOS series. I love his choice in progressive tracks...To Forever...Denial...and his Trance tracks Melkweg...Wounded Soul - he has a way of selecting music that strikes a chord in ya!
