Tom Novy is back in fine form on his remix of this wondrous track. A divine vocal sits on top of a soft but driven bass, and the tune builds and meanders through a dreamy landscape. There are some lovely low level stabs that don’t detract from the song, and some great key changes that drag the listener along on a soul house journey.
The vocal is a great hook, and generally speaking it’s a gorgeous infusion of soul and house, suited only to those who like quality dance music! Tom Novy doesn’t embrace the full-on electro sound he’s come to be known for, sticking instead to gathering together the strings and packaging it in a style that most will find irresistible.
Riff & Rays step up to the plate as well, and while they turn up the heat a little and allow the vocal to remain true to its roots, they also get the track chugging along towards the breakdown, where it’s all angelic choirs and brilliant shining piano. It’s hands in the air, old school vocal house, with a burning diva and busting bassline. Who said the fun had gone out of house!
Whelan & Di Scala’s E-Squire mix delivers another classic slice of 90s house, although it is in a more grand and epic style, akin to Italo house. There’s a massive piano breakdown that takes the listener back to party, and it cuts right through many of the morbid dirges we have in house music at the moment. They’ve produced a Mardi Gras anthem, and lets face it, there’s nothing wrong with that.
Your arms will ache from the clapping. Your jaw will ache from smiling. It’s about time the summer of love came back!
