John Dahlback is back with his new space techno house tune Pyramid on this 2-track EP from Hussle, which is the home for Dahlback’s original mix and Dirty South’s very own rendition of the track.
The track begins in true Dahlback style with strong kicks that hold the timing for the slowly building space-synth used to power this tune. The melody is quite extensive and vivid, and given the instrument used to generate it, it almost seems like Pyramid is a tad unfinished. John’s use of the percussion and bass lines in this tune, however, do a great deal in reducing the tackiness that could have been a huge part of this tack. Overall we are left with one funky new-age house tune that is sure to turn heads due to its interesting use of sounds and retro dance scene style.
Before the EP was released, Dirty South came along and decided Pyramid needed some flavour and punched it up with slapping piano line that smashes the true potential and groove that is to be found in this track. The original melody has been chopped into staccato slices that are clicked in every few beats, taking away the slightly cheesy vibe that the original possesses. It really is the hard hitting piano, however, that has now taken the place of the space synth that really makes this track the face slamming dance floor invitation that it is. Its jamming rhythm and crisp, clean sound leaves you subtly bobbing without even realising it.
