I really enjoyed this album… but come to think of it, I like almost everything Aquasky have done over the past few years, so it should come as no surprise! This, the latest in the popular Breakbeat Bass series, is full of all the breaksy, bassy, booming sounds we’ve come to expect from the Bournemouth, UK, trio.

Released on their own Passenger Records label, the album carries no less than 27 tracks across its 76 minutes of playtime. Some are rather short and sweet, but even still the overall effect is so mesmerising and rhythm-friendly that it sent me into a bit of a trance while I was driving down the freeway last week. There was much cursing when I realised I’d missed my exit and had to double back as a result. But I can hardly blame Aquasky for that, can I?

Like the other Breakbeat Bass albums in the series, the product is designed to be a budget release that showcases an array of new beats and basslines, many of which have never –nor will ever be – released of their own accord. For a taste of variety and a snapshot of the broad range of styles in the ever popular breaks genre, dance fans should check this out. It’s a heady mixture of house, breaks, electro, drum & bass, dubstep and hip hop, all blended smoothly in one aural adventure.

As well as Aquasky’s usual favourites – such as the Ragga Twins and Backdraft – there are plenty of other artists get a Guernsey in the mix. These include Herve & Sinden, The Body Snatchers, Lee Mortimer, Rico Tubbs, Aquasky, Tom Real & The Rogue Element, Trevor Loveys, Nick Thayer… the list goes on. A bargain buy for old fans and new fans alike.
