Grab your big sunglasses and slop on that fake tan, from Miami to Ibiza to anywhere you want it. Azuli Records is the UK’s longest running house label, and it’s here to serve up what they predict to be the biggest tracks of the 2009. Handpicked and mixed by Azuli’s founder David Piccioni, the double-disc compilation features tracks from the likes of Kurd Maverick, Deadmau5, Sebastian Leger, James Talk, Dino Lenny, TV Rock, DJ Simi, Joris Voorn and more.
Forget vocal house, this is that other house music, you know, the “it’s-not-fully-electro-house-yet-definitely-not-vocal-house” house. Progressive? At times. Confused? I bet. Although there are some good tunes in here, each disc lacks excitement in the way it’s structure, trudging along with no direction. One surprise was Mark Knight & Funkagenda vs Paul Thomas’ Arena (MK’s very clubby mix) that trainspotters will notice – but I wouldn’t have minded it sped up a notch! Perhaps in the right setting, this compilation would inspire me but right now, it’s disappointing.
