Harmonic 313 - When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence

If movies have taught us anything it’s that we humans are merely biding our time until that fateful day when the switch is flipped, artificial intelligence becomes real, and the human race loses the earth to Arnold Schwarzenegger looking robots hell bent on cleansing the planet of the disease that is the human race.

In Mark Pritchard’s reality the future isn’t so bleak. Instead of a world of enslaved humans being used as batteries to run our digital masters he theorizes the machines with superior intellect will be creating beats. He, under the Harmonic 313 moniker, has created an interesting instrumental digital hip-hop album. Busy P even blogged, in broken English, that it was “Probably one of the best album of 2009”.

UK-born/Sydney-based Pritchard references his Detroit techno influences on the project with ‘313’ being that city’s area code. The album sounds if the machines of the future like their music designed for slowly driving the street giving their sound systems a proper workout. Bass heavy beats filled with aurally pleasing synth beeps and sweeps dominate the record. The standout tracks are No Way Out, Dirtbox & Battlestar (ft. Phat Kat & Elzhi), which is one of the few tracks featuring human vocals.

A lot of work has been put into the Harmonic 313 website, which sees you compete in a word problem challenge with a computer to win a free download of an unreleased track Problem 7. If interesting and futuristic beats are your thing you don’t have to wait until the machines become self-aware and take over the world of dance music as Pritchard is creating for us humans now.

Wicked. Can't wait to check it out. I'm surprised he didn't explore a dubstep tangent at all...since he has been playing quite a biit of the stuff in his sets.
