Strong house label Toolroom Knights add yet another layer to their already huge depths of music with an entertaining and bouncy double CD from Benny Benassi. Stretching form straight-up house through to jumping energy and emotive progressive, it is ear catching, mixed well and will certainly inspire any punter listening over their speakers at home.
The first CD is more your level of pure house, but does kick off on the more industrial front with Panic Attacks. Some heavier than usual bass overpowers this track, and blows you out of your seat! Quite explosive for an introductory track, and a bit of a slap in the face – but a good one.
This heavier feel is mirrored by other tracks like We Love The Disco, while Stay the Same also has a hi-octane flavour that is spine tingling that will drive your body on the floor. Perfectly blended also with a nice progressive edge. However, it’s not all adrenalin – Benny does blend it well with some cruisy house gems like LookLookLook by Golden Bug and Kosimo, and we even get a little tech house taste with Gas Face by Tong & Spoon and Lava.
Add to this some really pumping house numbers like Electro Sixteen, and modern house classic Are U Ready? by Joachim Garraud and you really have a tidy mix of house. Towards the end of the first CD, Benny begins to turn up the heat in the beats kitchen and Aurora delivers a powerful conclusion making you think Benny is preparing you for the second CD.
The second CD is more on a progressive tip, and starts well with I’ll Work Ya Babe by ATFC. A perfect building track that starts to stir the bass pot nicely. Deep and solid, a well rounded track. The builds up make your skin crawl and energise you. Control and 88 continue this nice, not too up tempo feel before Enjoy the Silence hits the speakers. This track has serious class – a little dark and deep, it is the powerful, haunting vocal that makes this number a pearler. Dingy but classy and one of my favourite tracks on the CD.
The techno influence is also present on this CD with Technik and Nothin But Love which are good to break things up a little. As you start getting towards the second half of the CD, Benny Benassi really starts turning up the emotion, energy and quality progressive.
The first killer is Azteca by Kos – what a modern progressive anthem. It puts a smile on your face, keeps the energy flowing and is not to cheesy. From here, it is onwards and upwards for progressive winners. Golden Walls is progressive at its’ best with a fantastic breakdown with some crazy filtered vocals that the punters will go nuts for. Quantum injects a treatment of hi tempo power into your ears and is another serious contender for track of the mix but then again, so is the potential blinders Girls Suckcess and the Axwell remix of Faithless’ Music Matters, before winding it down a fraction towards the end.
This is one of those double CDs that flows well and gets better the further it progresses, especially towards the end. It has some of the finest house and progressive and will not disappoint fans of the genre. A well rounded and crafted collection – it’s not the most outstanding mix around, but it is certainly up there.
