It’s been a while since I’ve heard Myagi, and I’ll admit that he sort of slipped into the shadows for me after I heard his unbelievably cool remix of The Crystal Method’s High Roller for their Vegas 10th Anniversary boxset. I always said that I’d keep an eye out for his stuff, but I sort of forgot… but, I’ve done some trawling and I’ve found the man again, producing not just breaks tunes but changing his sound and approach with two classic sounding more progressive and housey tunes.
Things kick off with Fireball, a big rolling beat layered under a bunch of great synth work, which drops in subtle squeals, an absolutely massive destructo bassline over a wicked old-school-cool-nod-to-The-Chemical-Brothers lead synth which stretches mid track introducing some little lasers and breaking down with some deliciously fast paced glitches.
Meanwhile, many will be feeling the heat of the dancefloor with the top titled The Heat, dropping thick kicks, complimented by big builds and lots of drops, this one is another fat number with everything chucked in to craft a peak time track that is a fantastic suit to any progressive or energetic sets that need it.
There’s something classic sounding about the pairing on this release. Myagi is better known for his breaks, but this is a certain turn and leap for a new genre and the man has captured it perfectly for one of his first attempts at latching on to other genres.
