Obese Records are not resting in 2009, with yet another debut artist for the hip hop faithful. Stepping up to represent the Frankston line is Al Murray, known to his crew as Illy. Long Story Short is another strong addition to a genre that has really come into its own over the last few years. With 14 tracks on offer, Illy has achieved great diversity in sound and tone. It’s a little rock, a little gangster and even a little pop. But most importantly, it’s very Australian!
Lyrics of political expression from tracks Our Country and Generation Y are real anthems of our time that even touch on the recent bushfires that affected so many of us. On a less serious tip, This or That will have you in stitches and you will be singing along to Red Light Green Light time and time again. Phrase, Pegz and Spit Syndicate are just a few of the featured artists, rounding out an album that really grows on you the more you play it. Another successful launch from Australia’s largest independent hip hop label.
