One of the main reasons why John ‘00’ Fleming is my favourite DJ is that he’s not just a progressive dj, he’s not just a trance DJ, he’s not just a psy dj, but he’s all of them rolled into one exciting, enthusiastic and shiny bald package. This blend is really apparent in his latest single, out now on Joof Recordings.
The Original Mix is a good example of the range of sounds John can put together. While it is closer to 140 than 130BPM, some of the percussion and overall driving vibe of the tune remind me of progressive trance: the strings, huge windup and riff are pure epicness and the kick, acid leads and spoken word sample from Hellraiser 2 about exploring the secrets of the mind, where the track gets its name from, represent the psychadelic end of the spectrum. It’s a great track and I think really sums up the trance sound in all it’s glory.
While the original is a blend of multiple genres, if you don’t like it there are three other flavours that each lean more towards one particular sound. Anton Chernikov turns in a really dark driving progressive mix for those who need something a little deeper, Micky Noise goes in the opposite direction with a fast paced psy trance rework and Airwave covers the middle ground with a reasonably uplifting tech trance remix, the best of the bunch for me.
Overall a quality release, each mix covers different sounds so there is variety for different DJs, and they each shine on their own. Highly recommended!
