Modular, Modular, Modular! With a diverse tracklisting put together by one of the country’s most unique and interesting labels, Leave Them All Behind III is a delightful treat indeed. With their third installment in the compilation series, the Modular Records gang have put together a list of tunes that showcases the finest cuts from tried-and-tested favourites, as well as introducing us some new fresh ensembles, and of course some adding a dash from some of the label’s own artists in the form of Van She and Ladyhawke.
While it was a given the compilation was always going to have a strong indie/electro presence, it’s definitely well worth checking out even to those who wouldn’t immediately veer towards this style of music. To its credit, it doesn’t really try to be anything other a package of fun electro-pop music. With plenty of new tunes, it is definitely a goer for those who want all the big tracks du jour. It certainly has a little bit of something to offer for all peeps.
With such a varied array of music, it’s sure to cater for many tastes, and stand outs will largely stem from personal preferences. However, new tracks from Simian Mobile Disco, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Block Party and of course MGMT are sure to be crowd pleasers as well as the new track from Florence and the Machine, darlings of the UK at present. We’re also given a look at plenty of potential new talent with artists like The Invisible, Woolfy and Das Po.
Also, going above and beyond the typical anthems we might expect from such a compilation, Leave Them All Behind III offers some great remixes of familiar tunes, offering alternatives to what we’ve already been hearing on the radio, and that might have otherwise gone unheard. With quality reworks from the likes of Tiga, Holy Ghost!, Trentmoller and Nuam Gabo, these add an extra dimension and some club to the diverse compilation, which is well fitting with the labels avant-garde image.
With Modular’s metamorphosis from humble Sydney label into global party machine, the third installment in the series will not only further cement its credibility, but also give it another solid and successful opportunity to widen its massive fan base. There is no holding back. Hopefully on the back of this chapter’s success, we won’t have to wait so long between installments. Definitely sure to be a big hit amongst the Triple J crowd, lovers of indie-dance as well as lovers of quality music, Leave Them All Behind III ideal for anybody seriously needing new tunes on there iPods.
