(Right Tempo/Creative Vibes)
Creative Vibes brings us a tasty serving of nu-jazz and soul from heavyweights like Alex Gopher, Nitin Sawhney and United Future Organisation.
Innerzone Orchestra’s People Make the World Go ‘Round is striking in it’s simplicity, showing that strong songwriting will always beat overproduced mediocrity. A raspy male vocal and acoustic guitar are cushioned by judiciously placed orchestral samples, and the Hammond organ breakdown is gloriously cheesy. A promising opener.
The Child is typically bugged out jazzy breaks from Alex Gopher featuring the talents of the wonderful Ms. Shirley Bassey, and Stolen Moments is a schizophrenic hybrid of swing and tribal beats from wonderfully eccentric Japanese collective United Future Organisation.
Gil Scott-Heron brings proceedings to a close with the magnificent “Peace Go With You Brother”, an undisputed masterpiece of soulful jazz. This track was originally released in 1974, and it hasn’t dated a bit.
An inspired collection of gems new and old.
