I really liked Sandstorm by Darude (okay, I can hear the boo’s and howls for my blood right now). But seriously, Sandstorm was a fun and energetic Euro-trance track that was underground for two years before it became uncontrollably popular and was eventaully (and still is) played to death. And because of this immense popularity, it is a shame that Darude, who instead of creating something different and innovative for their follow-up single decided to re-create (in every sense of the clone, i mean word) Sandstorm, add corny vocals and call it Feel The Beat.
The track itself is formulaic trance that takes the same sample and strong bass cord that worked in Sandstorm, puts it in a different order, slows it down in the middle, adds some vocals and ‘hey presto!’, you have a song that doesn’t work, is inferior to the predecessor, but is currently No. 1 on the Australian Dance Charts. Now that speaks volumes… what it has to say I leave up to you.
The single itself consists of the Radio Edit, just the sort of thing to fill your WildFM compilation and Top40 playlists; Original mix, longer version of the radio edit with just more annoying vocals; and two remixes, the JS:16 Dark Remix and Rocco & Heist Remix 2, nothing special there.
The single also contains a Radio Edit and Ariel Remix of Sandstorm, but I think we’ve heard it enough already that no new life can be breathed into it.
The single also contains two bonus video clips, one for Sandstorm, the other for Feel The Beat. The clips are very good high quality mpeg files, so it’s great to see bonus materials on CDs improving in quality.
If you absolutely LOVE this song for any reason then buy the single, if you already own the Sandstorm single then forget about this inferior bastard cousin.
