Subware’s ‘My Affection’ featuring vocals by Jessy is an up tempo house offering that’s been making wave across the Australian dance community. The Album version of the track, taken from Subware’s self-tiltled debut album, is a on the deeper side of house.

Opening with some tribal percussion the track soon introduces the synth bass line, which pretty much supports this track with its strong and funky presence. The vocals within are fairly simple but do add to the groove with a catchy ‘rub a dub dub’ sample. The structure is pretty much standard house fare, consisting of 4/4 beats and a change every 32 or 64 beats. At each change you can guarantee that the music keeps moving and the overall delivery of the track is in no way repetitive. Throughout the listener is blessed with clean percussion and innovative production and to close a jazzy organ line carries the track through to its outro.

The dub mix of the original, on the same side is a little chunkier and it almost feels redundant to say when referring to a dub mix that it relies on the bass line heavily but it does. And very well I might add. The vocals are more subliminal and the track is much more reliant on the musical elements to carry it through.

On the flipside, my personal favourite, well know Sydney Dj/ Producers Ken Cloud and Pocket join to offer their remix. Featuring a club and dub version, the remixes are much beefier than the original taking the bass line and adding some resonance to make it more prominent, it also sounds to be a dirtier wave. The vocals have had some distortion added and are not as prominent on these mixes. As with the A side the dub version has almost no vocal and relies heavily on the instrumental aspects. The additional sounds are synonymous with Pocket’s releases, which tend to hold a more musical feel than many house offerings. Overall the production is tight and the effects a little more chopped up and sampled along with a much more shuffled beat.

This is a solid release for Subware and Soundfiction and I’ll be looking out for more of both the producer and label.
