(!K7 records/Creative Vibes)
“We live in the age of cruelty and every day I struggle to find my place in it. All I know I can offer the world is a thousand more adventures through dancing and light.” – Tiga
One of Tiga’s most recent offerings to the world is the new DJ Kicks mixed CD. Many would know Tiga for his works with Zyntherius and his collaborations with some of the most interesting and talented characters in modern day electro; Martini Bros., Alpinestars, Linda Lamb, Crossover, FC Kahuna, Cabaret Voltaire, Telepopmusique, Felix da Housecat, Fisherspooner are just to name a few.
The new mix CD by Tiga on !K7, is a solid mix, that showcases the quality tunes in electro synth pop right through to some house gems. The cheese is left behind and the digital basslines and synths complimented by some kooky vocals flow steadily throughout the mix.
The mix starts with a favourite of mine, Jolly Music – Radio Jolly [Adult Rmx] and progresses through some luscious guitar riffs in Chromeo – You’re so Gangsta. A nu wave tinge and German vocals to follow – Ich Und Elaine, and how about a bit of italo disco sounds with Tutto Matto – You.....nice.
Le Tigre and Soft Cell get a little run, as does Antonelli Electric, quality 80’s sounding electro punk and dubby disco all the way. The CD grabs my attention towards the end as Tiga decides to dabble in a bit of minimal house with track 20 Schatrax – Misspent Youth, this definitely gave the mix some brownie points, as did the great tune by Codec and Flexor – Time has changed which has a disjointed clicky bassline with a nu-wavesque vocal over the top. Oh and how could I forget the Dirty Cash remix…..perfect to sing along to in the car. “Dirty cash I want you, dirty cash I need you ooohhh oh”
A big thumbs-up on this one from me, it has been on rotation in the player and I am yet to get sick of it, a nice showcase on how the electro pop sound can be of the highest quality. No imitators here, just some solid representation of a misinterpreted genre.
