Back when I was just a wee lad, I remember a particularly eventful journey I made down the coast of Victoria one weekend. It was with a group of very high spirited other young fellows, who happened to own a beach house down at Sorrento. In the car, on that trip down to the holiday shack that would become ‘Trance Central’ and our home for the next 2 days, I ate a Green Apple and experienced an Epiphany that had me trying to punch my hands through the roof of the speeding Jeep we were being carried along in. That Epiphany involved two new gods: one you can guess immediately, the other was a German trance track that
began my love affair with all things dance. That track was Dumonde’s ‘Tomorrow’, it’s soaring synth lines and echoing female vocal quite literally blowing my mind.
So it is, 5 years later and a lot more experienced, I come across this newly mixed ‘Anthems’ CD that Dumonde & DJ Nervous have submitted for the latest in the Transmission releases. Nice to see that some things haven’t changed though. The huge, echoey, trancey synth chords, over top of the squelchy phat bass lines are still evident in Dumonde’s new track, ‘God Music’ and the older “Can You Dig It?’, both included here.
They’ve pulled in new tracks from others that are just as effective. Good mate Matt Darey features up front with ‘Moody’ on Disc 1. Ferry Corsten also appears as alter-ego Gouryella. Others to feature include; BK, Taiko, Kai Tracid, Cosmic Gate, Angel Of Death, Scott Project and many more contributing new tracks and mixes.
There’s old favourites like Yakooza’s ‘Cocaine’ and the ever satisfying Energy 52’s ‘Cafe Del Mar’. You’ll even find the Moby track ‘Go’, which was a highlight in the ambient mix first brought to life through the Back To Mine series with Nick Warren all those years ago, now remixed by Trance Allstars into an altogether more serious beast.
This is one compilation that truly captures the experience of the Transmission events : the color and the shape. If you’ve never been, you get your chance this weekend. If you have, you’ll know exactly what to expect from this pumping mix of well tested anthems that will have you climbing the walls with glee. Either way, just make sure your speaker system is up to the task (nice production by the way fellas!).
