(Finger Lickin’/Inertia)
Don’t worry prog heads, this isn’t Slide of Cass & Slide fame selling out his sound. It’s none other than Jason Cohen of Laidback appearing under a new alter-ego.
One word – Zapp!
I’ve been wondering when the needle would spin back round to the digital funk. For the uninitiated, Zapp’s ‘More Bounce To The Ounce’ is a sure fire dancefloor bomb – the combination of P-Funk freakiness and 80s dancefloor groove making it the life blood of any self-respecting dance head.
A skeletal track built around a monstrously fat bassline, ‘Slippedy Slide’ is definitely picking up where ‘More Bounce…’ left off. A track that could have been written any time in the last 20 years this will take the roof off at the party. A sampled vocal exhorts the listeners to rip off their shirts and ties and “Slide slide, slippedy slide, forget about your troubles and your nine to five”.
It’s got to be one of the most convincing slices of party music I’ve heard recently and if anything from the Finger Lickin’ crew is set to cross over this is it.
