(Passenger Records/PASSENGER011)
I’m not even going to try and hide my bias when it comes to Aquasky vs. Masterblaster. The swirling synths, the fat basslines, the tight drum programming, the pleasing melodies, it all makes the Aquasky vs. Masterblaster production team a little hard to overlook. Of course, they have come through with the goods once more on their latest release, on their own label Passenger Records, the double A side of Krush Groove and Cobra.
Sticking with their unwavering tried and tested formula of a heavy and tech influenced sound, Krush Groove begins with some ethereal vocal/synths before getting into the meaty beats and fierce rolling bassline, before taking a slightly percussive tip on the lead-out with some furious bongo action. Then on the flip… Cobra takes a slightly more chilled approach (I did say slightly), with a massive bassline that is just screaming to be heard on a nightclub sound system and not merely my headphones.
