No you ain’t hallucinating Ellis Dee is back and this time the beats are broken!
Ellis Dee is an old skool rave pioneer who last time I saw at Enchanted 2000 was spinning DnB as well as supplying a set of anthems in the old skool room, however come 2003 the man has returned playing (and producing) last years boom genre Breaks.
The mix is a very nice selection indeed opening with a Ellis Dee & Rennie Pilgrem collaboration which may contain the only let down in the MC Hammer Sample! However from here on (and incidentally it isn’t that bad a track) the disc doesn’t look back as the broken beats are mixed to perfection with the odd spinback thrown in for good measure. Some big names appear in Koma & Bones, Rennie & Chris Carter appear and there are two tracks from Autobots Chickers & Blogger both of these feature a sound that I swear (if I didn’t no better) is the hard house favourite of a couple of years ago the Hoover!
Overall the mix is tight the track selection good and Ellis’s own productions are also quality making this one for fans of the genre to check out and proving that some pioneers can move with the times.
