Transmission: Sound System For The Nation, Mixed by DJ Nervous
I’ve been excited about having a Transmission CD for so long. Transmission parties really are my favourite parties so having a CD to bring me back to these events was an exciting prospect; so strangely, and I guess sadly, as good as a CD set this is, it is in no way an accurate representation of the majority of music played at Transmission parties. Don’t get me wrong, this is a pretty good 2 CD set. It contains a plethora of progressive, tech house and Euro-trance tracks, but dare I say it, it’s not “bangin’” enough to be a true representation of a Transmission party… Either way, it’s a good CD in it’s own right.
Disc One is what caught me by surprise. It contains 15 tracks of progressive trance with a a touch of tech house and a minimum of cheese. It starts of on the progressive tip with Koma & Bones then goes all Australian with Pocket’s Smoke Signals and Infusion’s re-working of Pocket’s Procrastinator. We get a little tech with Blu Peter then back down to the progressive with Breeder, Killerhurtz and ending with one of last years biggest progressive trance tracks and a personal fav of mine Horizons by James Holden. This isn’t a very pumping disc, more of a slow, club friendly mix and nothing like the frenetic vibe you’d hear at Transmission, and some Tranmission fans may even find it a tad boring.
Disc Two is a closer representation of a Transmission party packed from start to finish with Euro-trance tracks. But it’s still not frenetic enough to show a listener how good Transmission parties are. It starts off on the Euro-trance tip and end that way with stand out tracks being Hudson Street by Agnelli & Nelson, Alibi – Eternity and the last three tracks, Astrodancer, Dark Horizon and Ethnic Prayer being the best in bringing me back to Transmission memories.
The mixing is quite smooth from DJ Nervous and overall I would recommend this CD for those who like a more laid-back approach to trance compilations, but don’t expect a storming CD of Transmission anthems because there aren’t any in here.
