(Tinted)
On the tinted label, responsible for bringing us Robbie Rivera’s last release Funk-a-Tron, this single features two exceptional tracks. Currently being championed by the dance press, Robbie Rivera’s sought after remixing skills have been utilised by Faithless, Felix Da Houscat, Moloko, and Madonna, to name a few.
This effort sees Robbie in form showcasing his own signature sound. The Hum Melody and Sex both bolster Robbie’s hold on the funky house scene. Both electro tinged beauties have a bass line that’ll massage your guts better than a half hour on a Harley.
The Hum Melody has an electro tinge to it, and an uplifting female hum vocal that could just as easily sit in a progressive number as with this house beat. Having reached number one on Billboard’s club play chart it’s a proven gem.
Sex co produced with Billy Paul, is the funkier track of the two, revolving around two simple guitar and bass loops. It won best dance track for 2002 in the Italian Music Awards. You’ve probably heard the lines, “sex, anytime, anywhere, right now, oh yeah, ah ha”. I like Robbie’s Sexy Mix the most, with the Filterheads, Warren Clark and DJ Pedro lending a hand to the remix stakes. The sex radio edit is a tiny 2.29 minutes. Great for those of us with a two minute attention span! The CD single features a whopping 8 tracks.
Simply put, if funky house is your bag, you can’t afford to be without it. Keep an eye out for Robbie’s debut album which he hopes to release by December this year.
