(Creative Vibes)

Take some dope beats, a hell of a lot of samples, add some guest MC’s and blend it all together and you have the full length player from Atlanta’s Prefuse 73.

My only question with this album was can an album be classed as Hip Hop if it is 95% beats with a minor amount of tracks featuring lyrics. I would have to say that the album quickly erased any fears that I may have had. Reminding me a reasonably amount in style of the Avalanches Prefuse has crafted a diverse selection of sounds with some cameo appearances that crosses just about every genre.

The album opens with Plastic featuring Diverse the production is tight and the lyrics are spot on but sadly from my point of view there is only one other rhyming cut the equally dope Huevos with Jeff & Ron featuring underground hero Mr Lif.

Having said that the rest of the album is far from average as the beats are mashed with dubs of Electronica, Jazz, and even R n B on the excellent The colour of Tempo and there are samples a plenty to have the most dedicated trainspotters searching through their collections to pick em. You even get some beat boxing on Busy signal right through to the soul influenced sounds of the title track. The album is 23 tracks deep so there is more than enough time for the artist to express himself and showcase the vast array of sounds that he works with and is influenced by.

The album is an eclectic mix as you would expect coming from the Creative Vibes stable but also has the other thing I associate with them and that is that stamp of class. The only thing slightly lacking in my opinion are lyricists however the star of the album is indeed the producer and this is the perfect way to showcase him.
