Autechre’s drug-crazed madness

Godfathers of electronica Autechre chatted to Skrufff this week about their upcoming gig at Bloc Weekend’s Pontin’s Holiday Camp and admitted that they’ve regularly encountered Motley Crue/ Queen style levels of decadence on the road.
“Once I saw someone taking drugs; I’m not joking, actual drugs, a pill it was,” one of the enigmatic duo revealed (via email), “She just swallowed it and carried on dancing- it was mad.”
The usually loquacious experimentalist was uncharacteristically reticent, however, about the details of their planned upcoming set, referring only to ‘variants’ and ‘a lot of variables’, adding ‘we always play our greatest hits’.
He also adopted an ultra-minimalist approach to all the other questions questions, including ‘your last album was called ‘Untitled’ ever worry you might start running out of ideas?’ (its correct title was Untilted).
“Are you being sarcastic?”
Skrufff: Have you ever had any creative blocks?
Autechre: “Yeah LEGO.”
Skrufff: Or blazing rows between each other?
Autechre: “Yeah.”
Skrufff: the last time we chatted you said ‘we work in the middle of nowhere, between Suffolk and Norfolk’: what did you make of the recent serial killer murders: surprised they happened there?
Autechre: “Dunno’, don’t live there anymore.”
Skrufff: Anything else to add?
Autechre: “Yeah.”
Auteche headline Bloc Weekend between March 23 and 25 at Pontin’s Holiday Park, Hemsby, Great Yarmouth, alongside Luke Slater, The Advent, CJ Bolland, Billy Nasty, CJ Bolland etc etc etc
