Mr Oizo feels Daft Punk & Etienne live shows are "ridiculous"

There’s no denying that the French have a well worn reputation for not holding back, and in his recent interview with inthemix Ed Banger’s Mr Oizo definitely made his opinion known on bombastic stage setups ahead of his tour with the Future Music Festival. Sharing a spot on the bill next to fellow countryman Etienne De Crecy, who is all set to debut his revered ‘cube’ live show in Australia, Oizo’s opinion of the light and magic spectacular was a little surly to say the least.
“I saw it one time, the big cube. It was funny…” he laughed, before we asked whether he felt the show lived up to the hype. “I’m not a good person to say that,” he answered. “Because to me even the Daft Punk pyramid show is just a light show. I don’t see the connection between electronic music and the light show, to me it’s like a little bit too serious and too ridiculous.”
Before you set out to hunt down Oizo, tie him to a stake and set him alight for besmirching the good name of everyone’s favourite robotic duo, take a deep breath. He still thinks they’re good at what they do, it’s just not the type of live show he’s into. “I respect them [Daft Punk], and I respect Etienne De Crecy also,” he explained. “But to me it’s very serious to bring that kind of music with such a huge setup and lighting. To me it’s not interesting…”
So, don’t expect to see Oizo front and center as Etienne fires up the cube anytime soon, but we’re pretty sure there’ll be a few thousand fans eagerly waiting in his place. “I watched it for like 10 minutes [once] and it was boring. But the audience seems to like it, so I’m an asshole.”
Check the clip of Etienne’s cube below. Ridiculous or revolutionary? You be the judge!
