Simian Mobile Disco returning to Australia this summer?

If you’re like us here at ITM, then you’re probably still reeling from all those festival announcements that came out last week. What a doozy it was with huge lineups for summer festivals like Harbourlife, the mighty Stereosonic and also trio of announcements with Falls Festival, Sunset Sounds and Southbound, all of which revealed a swag of big names like Deadmau5, Fedde Le Grand, Moby, Major Lazer and LCD Soundsystem. Well, it looks as though we’ll need to add another superstar act to that list as UK wizards Simian Mobile Disco have revealed their intentions to have another Australian summer.
Being huge fans of the duo’s phenomenal live show (to the point where we included them in our Best Live Shows list!) we took the chance to ask SMD super producer James Ford when the group would return to Australian shores after their rather thundering performances out for the 2009 Big Day Out.
“We’re keen to come back to Australia, actually. I think we’re probably going to be there for your summer and we’ll do a festival,” Ford told us during promo for the duo’s new Temporary Pleasure LP. “It’s early days at this stage, to the point where I don’t even know if I should be talking about it, but it’s on the cards,” he laughed.
Ford is no stranger to Australia, having visited not only with Simian Mobile Disco earlier this year but also in 2007 when he jetted down to Braidwood to work on the Bumblebeez album, Prince Umberto and The Sister Of Ill.
“That was a really weird experience because I didn’t get to see much of Australia besides Braidwood,” Ford told us with a grin. “As soon as I got off the plane I had to make my way to Braidwood to meet [Bumblebeez mainman] Chris. And then I just stayed there in that quiet little place as we worked on his album, it was crazy!”
While that’s all Ford could say about the next run of Australian dates for Simian Mobile Disco, rest assured we’ll be following the UK duo for any news updates and whether or not they’ll hit up Braidwood again. In the meantime, catch the fantastic Temporary Pleasure on August 14th.
