Chase & Status caught in another fake DJing scandal?

Image for Chase & Status caught in another fake DJing scandal?

First it was New Order bassist gone wild Peter Hook caught up there behind the one’s and two’s putting on a well rehearsed pantomime, then last month drum n bass upstart Mistabishi admitted to miming a recent DJ set, and now it looks as though we’ve got another club phantom on our hands, with Chase & Status currently embroiled in a fake DJing scandal.

As reported by Mixmag, drum n bass fans have been kicking up a serious stink this week after some dubious footage emerged online from a recent Chase & Status DJ set, showing one half of the duo busting out some particularly suspect moves.

From the looks of things, Chase & Status are taking some liberties with their DJ set, using some pre-recorded mixes and pre-pitched tracks in the set, which comes off as extremely peculiar as from all reports the UK duo used to turn in some technically polished sets.

So far fans have been divided with some saying it’s tune selection that really matters, with others braying for Chase & Status’ blood, so check out the video below for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments section. Whatever the outcome, suffice to say we’re safe for their upcoming tour of Australia as they’ll be performing a brand new live band set. Phew!

Hahaha, how pathetic... they get paid to 'DJ' yet they just mime? what a joke.

Are we talking around the 5:30 mark with those two spin backs? They look a little suspect to me, seem out of time...apart from that his body is blocking any view of the mixer for 95% of the time

So here comes a rant!!!! I don't really think this proves anything... While it seems that there's definitely some pre-prepared mash ups in being used up and switched between up front there's not really anything that distinctively indicates any dishonest m

i reckon this happens alot, since the majority of the act of djing involves loading a disc and pressing play. just as long as you don't get caught, ignorance is bliss.

Nothing too dodgy he might be playing a some premade mashups but he is still mixing just as much as any other dj, Only thing I saw that would indicate it was fake was at 4:39 he checks his headphones when only one CD is in and playing but fuck that's not

ballistix said on the 11th Nov, 2009

It looks suss, until you realise that he's actually spinning the platter forward, not backwards. All legit DJing here.

I watched this the other night and am not totally surprised they have a pre-prepared intro track.. it seems like its playing off a single deck and there quite a lot of over-acted filter / eq twiddling going on.. and I dont agree with the "its ok to pre-p

Gouldy said on the 12th Nov, 2009

in this video, it is simply demonstrating an instance where they have live singers. In other words, the DJ doesn't really have to do much... I saw grant smillie do the same thing with that vandalism girl the other day. Accept he didnt dance around and

dj's are the most over rated things on earth. fukn EQ jockeys.

swanny10 said on the 12th Nov, 2009

Aftertouch.....I bet you cant DJ for shite...

Wowk said on the 12th Nov, 2009

Erm that is all totally legit... At worst he's put some acapellas over tracks before hand, which SHITLOADS of DJs do and is hardly "fake DJing". Whoever was complaining that this was them faking is a total retard.

rockbimborock said on the 13th Nov, 2009

fake no doubt.........he even fakes pulling out a cd....? what a douche. hell he could of atleast put a macbook up and pretend it was all ableton - what a shame.....was looking forward to catching these guys at goodvibes next year aswell

I laughed when he danced with his hands behind his back at the start of Smash TV. DJs do have some pretty sweet dancing skills. Who cares about putting accapellas over tracks in advance, if I could do it well I would do it all the time. DJs get a pretty b

Why on earth would you wanna mime a Dj set..Ive heard of a Sydney Dj do the same thing...Worst of it was that he had put on another well known Sydney Djs CD instead of his.. What a Dick!!

twistedbydesign said on the 13th Nov, 2009

I don't think he touches the pitch slider. pre pitching cds is kinda lame. Leave it to Girl Talk and the mash up massive

grapsta said on the 14th Aug, 2012

Strange people are saying its just pre prepared mash-ups and a spinback...there's a ton of mixes going on and he's hardly touching the cd players.... Still - sounds like a bad ass set which is more than I can say for 99.99% of dj's. makes me want to go t
