Art vs Science take Hottest 100 by surprise

Although this year’s Triple J Hottest 100 will most likely be remembered as the one where the horse bolted out of the gates four days in advance, the announcement of the full list still held some surprises for listeners of the Australia Day countdown

There were no prizes for ‘guessing’ the #1 song, with Mumford & Sons taking it out as the leaked info indicated last week, however the next in line did cause some surprise with hotly tipped indie electro band Art vs Science coming up trumps for Parlez Vous Francais? The band are about to hit the road for the Good Vibrations Festival tour in February, and you can be sure they’ll draw a significantly bigger crowd as a result of their ranking.

Other notable mentions include Phoenix with Lisztomania at #4 and 1901 at #13, La Roux with Bulletproof at #6 and In For The Kill at #27, the Bag Raiders with Shooting Stars at #18, The Bloody Beetroots with Warp 1.9 at #23 and Awesome at #43, Simian Mobile Disco with Audacity of Huge at #41, The Prodigy with Omen at #68, MSTRKRFT with Heartbreaker at #73, Miami Horror with Sometimes at #82 and Deadmau5 Ghosts N Stuff at #96.

Art vs Science. Good on them! They've gone from nobody's to this in not much time. Doesn't have to be everyones cup of tea, but give credit where it's due. Well done!

what a load of C.R.AAAA.P! The top of the list proves that if triple j rotate a track enough , i.e. play it to death, while constantly mentioning the band and ensuring complete overexposure, songs like broken leg by Bluejuice get number 5. Art v science a

agree with Weqster, 2nd best song of the year give me a break. I know music taste is a personal thing but ffs that song is so average. Donkeydrop, have a look at Jimmy Vallance's Buttons mix too

Ugh. Art vs Science already had massive crowds. Massive crowds of awful, awful people. The crowd they had a few months ago at Amps in Perth was easily the worst crowd i've ever had to suffer at a live gig. Everyone was so aggro, smashing glasses all over

i agree phoenix are a great band i love their songs, just they've never been very zeitgest on triple j, so i was surprised they got number 4.

could very well be the worse hottest 100 ever, until next years comes out which will no doubt only get worse, anyone notice a trend over the past few years?
