Uffie talks debut album drama

After four long years of hype, anticipation and her boobs being plastered across blogs, Ed Banger’s own grandstanding MC Uffie at last released her debut album, Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans earlier this month. And just as some fans hated listening to it, it turns out that Uffie herself hated making the record.
Speaking to ITM ahead of her return to Australia later this year for the epic Parklife festival, Uffie opened up about the extensive production process behind Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans, saying that there came a time when she was ‘sick’ of making it.
“There was all this drama around making this record,” Uffie told ITM. “It took such a long time and as it kept dragging on it just started to get really heavy. I would sometimes think that maybe I would be better off just dropping things and starting a new album.”
According to the fire-brand vocalist one of the main factors contributing to the record’s ‘drama’ was Uffie’s relationship with producer and former flame Feadz, the infamous implosion of which is well documented on songs throughout the LP.
“After a while it just got really hard working with Feadz…we have such a history together that it just became so hard to work with him anymore. I didn’t feel like I was advancing as an artist or challenging myself at all. It was like I was just making the same song over and over.”
What changed was the addition of French production auteur Mirwais, who Uffie says “the confidence to advance and challenge myself. We just clicked with each other, and that’s hard to find.”
You can check out the fruits of their combined labours in the clip for ADD SUV ft. Pharrell below, which we’ll admit has grown on us just a li’l bit. And check out the Parklife dates for Uffie’s live comeback too.
