Mid-year chart; Bass Kleph Beatport’s highest selling track of 2010

Image for Mid-year chart; Bass Kleph Beatport’s highest selling track of 2010

It was only a few days ago that we reported on Yolanda Be Cool vs DCUP doing big things on the global stage, securing the #1 spot on the UK singles chart. Now it’s time to spill the beans on another Australian artist proudly flying the Oz flag. Are you feeling all warm and fuzzy yet? We sure are.

Sydney DJ and producer Bass Kleph has been blazing a trail for a number of years now, and of late has really come into his own with the growing popularity of his Vacation Records stable and mix CD releases with Ministry of Sound (Underground 2010 and Clubbers Guide to 2009). Just announced, however, is that his remix of Shakedown by Joan Reyes – released on Spanish label Fresco Records – is so far leading the charge as the most downloaded track of 2010 on Beatport!

It’s an impressive statistic, especially when you take a look at the heavyweights he’s beaten out for the top spot on the mid-year chart. Deadmau5, Mark Knight, Cirez D, Tiesto & Diplo, Fatboy Slim, Joris Voorn, Axwell and many, many more… Special mention must also go to the aforementioned Yolanda Be Cool vs DCUP who are holding things down at the very respectable #6, as well as Dirty South sitting pretty at #21. Go Australia!

"I can't remember exactly where I read it, but someone in the know (I'll try find out where I read this) was saying how incredibly easy it is to get a track in the top 10 downloads on Beatport because of how little people actually buy the music, the amount of purchases to break into the top 10 is ridiculously low. Labels are just buying their own tracks to game the system." - http://www.inthemix.com.au/forum/showpost.php?p=393905668

For some reason it didn't add the last part of my comment - "Interesting if true"

i much prefered his production and DJ talents when he was playing breaks, but this a pretty tasty track and he is very prolific in producing good tunes.. nice work Kleph ; )

i'd say it's easy enough to rig most charts... but to be the #1 selling track of the year so far, regardless of genres, you'd expect they've shifted a fair amount of units. i say good work to bass kleph, love your work and always have!

It's actually incredibly hard to sell as many as that remix did. That remix sold over 12,000 copies on beatport alone. Well done Stu, bloody legend. he's also got a remix coming out on my label soon too PLUG ;)

Don't get me wrong, big fan of BK! Not so much of the shit beatport pushes though :)

I didnt think you could sell 12,000 copies of anything in these days of music piracy.
