Ibiza's jealousy-inducing 2010 closing parties
Mon 27th Sep, 2010 Newsin
This weekend marks the final hurrah of another heady Ibiza season, and the big players are going out with an almighty bang. By most accounts, it has been a healthy few months on the White Isle, with DJs like Sasha, Lee Curtiss, Tiesto and Lee Burridge all reporting to inthemix that it was a special summer. As Burridge put it in his inimitable style: “I think it will be remembered as a great year. The clubs are busy. The music is great. The people aren’t that ugly this year and a girl groped me.”
As un-ugly as the crowds may be, they’ll have a hard time staying composed over this week of blow-outs. With Cocoon, Fuck Me I’m Famous, Kehakuma and Subliminal all saying goodbye during the week, the weekend boasts some absolutely monster line-ups.
One of the success stories of the 2010 season was Cadenza’s Vagabundos night at Pacha. The closing party on Sunday 3 October sees Chilean powerhouse Luciano going back-to-back with fellow drum-lover Carl Craig in the main-room, which could prove very special.
They’ll have stiff competition, though, from the Space Ibiza Closing Fiesta. The towering Ibiza institution has gone all-out on the guests for its open-ended rave-up. Think Josh Wink, Steve Lawler, Tiefschwarz, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Ellen Allien, Mauro Picotto, M.A.N.D.Y and many more Space guests and residents stretched over many hazy hours.
Saving the loosest for last, Australia-bound blowout Circoloco takes over DC-10 on Monday 4 October. After a thwarted 2009 season, the party announced it was embarking on a ‘new era’ this year, with Seth Troxler, Zip and DJ W!ld as its mascots. Helping bring it all to an end is US house legend Kerri Chandler and techno Trojan Ricardo Villalobos, with Jamie Jones, Matthias Tanzmann, Damian Lazarus and Timo Maas just some of the rest on board.
