The Bloody Beetroots say electro is ‘overrated’

Italian masked DJs gone synth-punks, The Bloody Beetroots, have made ruffling feathers something of a vocation recently with some infamous clubbing rants and traumatic live shows. Hell, they even managed to shake up the guys who’ve booked them for next year’s Big Day Out festival. Clearly still on the provocative tip, the group’s head honcho Bob Rifo has turned his icy glare to the genre that he’s famous for mastering.
Rifo’s words come from a recent interview on the Death Crew 77 website, in which the masked producer detailed his love for classic records from Herbie Hancock and Afrika Bambaata before naming the electro scene as his pick for the ‘most overrated genre in dance music’.
While this glib remark might seem like the pot calling the kettle black, it could perhaps be the beginning of a new chapter for the ‘Beetroots. Perhaps Rifo has been taking advice from Busy P and decided to kick his stage-diving habits! Or maybe The Bloody Beetroots are going in a minimal direction like converted techno-head Steve Aoki. Or maybe he’s just taking the piss. Whatever way, we’ll find out if Rifo and the ‘Beetroots still sound ‘electro’ when they arrive for the summer party season ahead.
