LOOKING FOR 2011’S SET TIMES? WE GOT YOU COVERED! CHECK OUT THE SYDNEY SET TIMES, THE MELBOURNE SET TIMES, THE BRISBANE SET TIMES, THE PERTH SET TIMES OR THE ADELAIDE SET TIMES.

After much anticipation and wish-listing, now is the time to get acquainted with the 2011 Future Music Festival line-up. And what a monster it is. The bods at Future said to expect the biggest and most varied bill yet, and that promise has certainly been delivered. A host of DJs and live acts spanning techno, hip hop, trance, indie, electro and pop is set to go large across the country next March.

True to the hint of those conveniently-timed headline shows, top billing goes to rave pioneers The Chemical Brothers, whose live show has only got more sensorially intense. Meanwhile, festival experts Pendulum and Dizzee Rascal are sure to go down a storm, while UK trendsetter Mark Ronson brings his big band cool to proceedings. And wait, is that the Ke$ha? And is that you watching Ke$ha, secretly or otherwise? – Head over here to play Six Degrees of Ke$ha-Separation and see how the popstar strangely works on the lineup!

For The Likes Of You tent, there’s a heavyweight presence thanks to Richie Hawtin’s mind-melting ‘Plastikman live’ show, Future Music Festival mascot Sven Vath and protégé Loco Dice. Read all about what to expect in our The Likes Of You live preview feature.

As hoped for, the mighty Sander Van Doorn is the trance headliner and Steve Angello’s on-board to bring the anthems. Last but certainly not least, fans will be jumping out their skin at the news that ‘90s electronic icons Leftfield will be there, live and very loud.

Overall that's a pretty massive list, and having the likes of Ke$ha and MGMT covers every base imaginable. I like it. Keen on Ronson, Hawtin and Leftfield!

It's a bit shit. Pretty major let down aside from a few acts. Ke$ha? Seriously that's a fucking disgrace that she gets to even perform let alone at a dance festival. And I agree with Cizza MGMT are a farce now.

bassbins said on the 14th Oct, 2010

win - but daverh, why do they need to cover every base imaginable? surely no one has any inclination of seeing kesha or mgmt.. and if they do they shouldn't be at a dance festival - they could have gone to the nickelodeon awards instead

daverh

daverh said on the 14th Oct, 2010

Well if we think about it in the grand scheme of things, an act like Ke$ha has significant draw for people who probably wouldn't go to a straight up 'dance' festival. They see her and they see a couple of other popular names like Dizzee, Ronson, etc and decide, i might just buy a ticket to that! And that gives the promoter a little extra security in the bank to splurge on a A-Class headliners like the Chems, Pendulum and Plastikman. If it's not your cup of tea, so be it, but I doubt the Ke$ha crowd will bother you while you're watching Sander or Loco Dice. My thoughts anyway.

Pretty ordinary line-up in comparison to previous years, and with the usual hero fest (last year's crowd was disgusting) I'm thinking I'll give this one a miss. Interesting to note that Ke$ha's hijacking of Uffie's music style and delivery seems to have finally paid off. Let that be a lesson to all new musicians, in Uffie's case she took too long to deliver an album, thereby giving skanks like Ke$ha the opportunity to rip her off and ultimately usurp her fanbase.

"Why bitch about kesha? it means you're more likely to see people you want cause it's one less stage/artist that can clash, retards."
I understand your logic but it's actually the other way around - when she is on stage I'm going to be compelled to show up and throw something at her.
This will mean I'm going to miss seeing whoever is on at the same time.
It actually creates a clash, not removes one.

There's a lot of talk about this actually.
I wonder if Future will end up having to release a statement specifically warning that "anyone caught throwing things at Ke$ha will be ejected from the venue".

clasek

clasek said on the 14th Oct, 2010

Suric

Suric said on the 14th Oct, 2010

haha it always makes me laugh how everyone hates on the commercial portions of festival lineups ie Kesha & dizzee etc, its just NOT financially viable to have a festival without these names.......The general population are just Durkas, Take local "Underground" events for example, we can barely get 100 - 500 people to a House/Techno gig (Take Deetron & Satoshi Tommie the last 2 sundays for example)...Let alone 10000 + plus plus plus to go to see these cool acts....Theres 4 stages, so if that means if youre happy to see 25% of the lineup then thats good, then you can enjoy the whole set rather than dancing around all 4 stages gurning hard like you normally do...........Without these Commercial acts we wont get the quality like Loco Dice, Sven, Richie Etc etc etc (and whatever else tickles your fancy)....Absolutely Killer lineups generally mean you miss out on them anyway unless u can be 4 places at once....Besides its only the 1st release =)

Itmers always believe festivals are designed with their 'underground' tastes in mind. Festivals like future are a mass market attraction. Of the 40- 50,000 people that attend, the itm community makes up a miniscule part of that market. To sustain an ever growing dance market, festivals need to be commercial to an extent to draw numbers. The good thing is they can then branch out and have cool underground acts play at their events to spread intrest. think about it, would you have ever had Plastikman or Leftfield play at a "dance " festival in australia 10 years ago with a crowd the size future pulls?? the answer is no.Granted Ke$ha is a horrible addition, but its the reality of massive festivals nowadays, they are commercial and need to cater to everyone.

Exactly.

Does anyone know if Etienne De Crecy is going to bring back his cube setup ??? That was insane last time he came!!

I reckon the line up is great, well rounded and caters for heaps of genres - a few acts ive never seen but have have been dying to see, and a few I have seen that i love....cant want much more than that!

And I have Chem Bros side show tix so I can miss them and see another headliner :-D

Plastikman, vath, chemical bro's are awesome but Future has really drawn me in with Ke$ha, I almost think it's worth the price of admission to throw shit at her and taunt her mercilessly.
