Mark Murphy moving on from Spank! Records

In sad news for Sydney’s DJs (and would-be DJs), Spank! Records’ long-serving guru Mark Murphy is moving on. After eight and a half years behind the counter, the hometown hero has “decided to hang up my records and head out into the world”. His welcoming attitude and all-round expertise is sure to be missed, as are his interviews on the store’s blog. However, Murphy’s life as a DJ is still set to carry on as normal…

Here’s what the man himself had to say. “My fellow co-owners, Chris Lo and Leanne Clegg, will take ownership of Spank! and continue to grow what I believe is the best all-round DJ shop in Australia,” he wrote in this week’s newsletter. “The store will continue to push vinyl and continue to expand on its growing hardware/software & digital DJ business.

“I wish Chris & Leanne all the best with Spank! and I hope it further cements itself as a leader in the industry. I’d like to thank everyone that I’ve ever sold a record to or sold a pair of Technics to or even told a silly joke to. It’s been great. Anyway, my last day will be Friday, November 26. Thanks for everything and see you around the traps.”

Will be missed for hot record tips, silly dancing behind the counter and general ridiculousness. ;) Hijack: We're celebrating Mark's last day at JACK this Friday 26th if you wanted to wish him well in person. /hijack.
