What’s your Essential Mix Of The Year?

The Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 has had another blockbuster year, calling on a roll-call of top jocks to work their magic over two hours. Given we’ve entered the season of ‘best ofs’, Pete Tong and co. have now revealed the shortlist for Essential Mix of the Year.

The ten mixes up for contention are the ones that “used the two hours to full effect, taking the listener on a creative, coherent, flowing musical journey” – and now it’s up to listeners to pick a winner. It’s a tellingly diverse pool, with dubstep well represented alongside trance, drum & bass, bass-heavy electro, electronica and the Swedish House Mafia’s stadium house.

One Essential Mix guest who won’t be surprised not to make the cut is Basement Jaxx. The Londoners stepped up to the plate in October for the first time since 1999, but they told inthemix this week that they disappointed themselves. “I think we maybe played a little safe this time,” one half of the duo Felix Buxton admitted. “We played just a lot more house, which I feel was slightly lame and a bit of a poor performance.”

Head to the BBC Radio 1 website to vote on your Essential Mix Of The Year. Which of these gets your nod?

Four Tet
Jack Beats
James Zabiela
John ‘00’ Fleming
Magnetic Man
Nero
Netsky
Pendulum
Swedish House Mafia at Creamfields
Wolfgang Gartner

J00F mix was absolutely massive. Four Tet also a real stand-out, his DJ sets always surprise. Huge omission from this list is Digweed in May - up there with his 2007 Warehouse Project EM.

All pretty epic. Good to see Pendulum in there. I think the only ones I could pick I didn't want to win are SHM and Netsky.
