Eminem *maybe* playing a festival with Timmy Trumpet?

According to a promoter’s press release posted on Facebook (let the doubting begin…), US rap superstar Eminem will be in close proximity to Australia this summer, with the rapper said to be playing the Once In A Lifetime festival on Boracay Island in the Philippines.
The event is run in association with children’s charity Hunter Global Project and according to their site all proceeds from the festival will go to children living in poverty. The event also features international house stars like Sarah Main and Jon Jak, not to mention a strong Australian lineup led by wifebeater enthusiast Timmy Trumpet.
Does that sound odd to you? Yeah, us too. We’d love it to be true but this just seems like a dodgy operation…
Although a look at Timmy Trumpet’s tour schedule confirms he’s playing the Once In A Lifetime event, we can’t help but doubt the validity of these Eminem claims. To begin with, it’s Eminem. If Good Vibrations money – as it was rumoured earlier this year – couldn’t lure him down to the southern hemisphere then it’s doubtful that this can. And the website states that there’s only 1200 tickets available, not really making it worth Em’s while. And finally, it smells a bit fishy that the way to purchase a ticket is to drop some $500 dollars into a stranger’s PayPal account. Have the festival organisers attended the Nigerian prince school of internet business?
Cynicism aside, we do actually hope this is legit because it would be a cool initiative to raise money and also the Philippines are close enough that Eminem would then play some shows here in Australia. But December is traditionally a good month for broken hearts so we’ll stay wary of this one for now.
