Ed Banger goes ‘techno’

Just like Steve Aoki before them European electro stronghold Ed Banger Records is getting all hot and heavy over techno, or at least a stretched definition of that genre with their new compilation Let The Children Techno.

Released on February 14th internationally Let The Children Techno will be the French label’s return to compilations after a drought of their much loved Ed Rec collections and comes pre-mixed by recent Parklife visitors Busy P and DJ Mehdi.

That all sounds pretty good already but where Let The Children Techno gets a little more exciting is with the tracks assembled for the CD with Busy P and Mehdi mixing exclusive new tunes from producer buddies Brodinski, Para One, Riton, Flying Lotus and even ex-Rapture singer Mattie Safer. And as with any Ed Banger release there’s a load of new tunes from the label’s big hitters including Mr. Oizo, Breakbot, Feadz and Breakbot.

Ed Banger presents Let The Children Techno mixed by Busy P & DJ Mehdi:

1. MR OIZO ‘Let The Children Techno’
2. BUSY P ‘Procrastinator’
3. DUKE DUMONT ‘Hipgnosis’
4. SIRIUSMO ‘Idiot’
5. PARA ONE & TACTEEL ‘Infinity Riser (remix of Bernard Fevre’s Dali)’
6. BREAKBOT ‘Shades Of Black’
8. MATTIE SAFER ‘Is That Your Girl?’ (Featuring Telli from Ninjasonik)
10. CASSIUS “Shark Simple” L-VIS 1990 & The Neon Dreams Remix
11. DJEDJOTRONIC ‘The Invisible Landscape’
12. DISCODEINE ‘Grace’
13. FEADZ ‘Far From Home’ featuring Claude Violante
15. BOBMO ‘Control’
17. RITON ‘One Night Stand’
18. SKREAM ‘Boat Party’
19. DJ MEHDI ‘TragicoMehdi’
20. FLYING LOTUS ‘Caravan Of Delight’

Where's the techno?Stick with what you know and do well, which is... uhh... umm... ahh... errrr...

woah.... diverse list of artists on that track listing.Im a bit intrigued!

nrjize said on the 17th Jan, 2011

First they hijacked proper electro and now they're trying to call themselves techno. Get fucked. This is not "techno". You can't just decide you're calling your music a genre that already exists.

hahaha... i love how ancy 'techno' fans get over their genre.all this electro/techno crossover has been happening for years now, pretty sure they're not claiming to be detroit.people should be more worried what black eyed peas and guetta are doing to edm then edbanger using the name of a genre it may not solely be, but definately has ties to.

Not bad but I doubt busy would know techno if it hit him in the face by the look of that tracklist

pomrocks said on the 18th Jan, 2011

Explain to me where the techno is on that tracklist

Thanks Robbz... I'm not allowed to have an opinion on music because it might mean i'm insecure... My love of techno stems from my abandonment issues too btw

deepbeetzz said on the 18th Jan, 2011

Ancy is the word hey. Some earlier daft punk stuff I would consider techno, its not ben klock or jeff mills, its a bit harsher and noisier, buts its still techno. Why do people get so agreessive about a word being used to describe something. "Proper" techno wont implode and never exist because of a ed banger comp.

no real techno =( i was hoping ed banger would jump on the band wagon so for the next year we could have all the chin strokers on this website crying about how ed banger is ruining "their" music. that would've been literally days of entertainment.

My left testicle is more techno than that tracklisting.

"Mr. Oizo, Breakbot, Feadz and Breakbot" Breakbot 2x - interesting!!

ladyflash said on the 18th Jan, 2011

To people complaining that the album isn't techno did you notice the first song is called "Let the Children Techno"? Nowhere have Busy P or DJ Medhi called this compilation album a techno mix. It's just a DJ mix and they've used the title of the opening track as it's name.

the one remaining millimeter long pubic hair on my left testicle is more techno than you'll ever be wowk.

Who ever said anything about Detroit. WTF does that have to do with it. It's being marketed as techno. Just look at the front cover. Your everyday shmoe isn't going to know the title is a Mr. Oizo tune.Plain and simple, it's got not a lot to do with techno. But Ed Banger is trying to find a way to be relevant. But it's just irrelevant fluf at the end of the day.And it's 'antsy', not 'ansy' - you uneducated chumps.

I beliebe Busy P wanted to depart from the buzz saw electro sound being promoted by the yanks, particularly the Dim Mak label. In past interviews he's stated he wants to head down the house path. Let's see if he can embrace a new sound and still be relevant.

anything he embraces automatically ceases its relevancy.

Gunna buy this. ParaOne, Sirisumo, Feadz, GESAFFELSTEIN. yes please

Morecowbell said on the 25th Jan, 2011

More arguments over classification. Never gets old, hey? It is what it is. I caught Breakbot over the NYE period...the second half of his set consisted of some seriously driving, pulsing techno. Epic. Brodinski doesn't play techno either? Para One's newest EP isn't techno? Put simply, a lot of these guys (in the very least) dabble in techno. It may not be your classic, old Detroit-style techno, but I'm missing Pedro's exclaimation as to it being just that. Ed Banger is renowned for genre-crossing (it is not 2007 anymore, haters). Eagerly anticipating this.
