The Grammys give out dance gongs

The 53rd annual Grammy Awards ceremony is currently going down over in Los Angeles where the cream of the mainstream music industry is gathering to honour 2010’s biggest achievements in music like whatever Justin Bieber released and Katy Perry’s boobs. While the main awards don’t tend to hold much interest around these parts, the Grammys given out in the dance field of the pre-telecast are usually worth a look, if only for a chuckle at what classifies as ‘dance’ in 2011.
While the Best Dance Recording category was a non-event with Rihanna besting Goldfrapp, Lady Gaga and Robyn with Only Girl In The World, the Best Electronic/Dance Album award looked to be a tighter race with The Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada, BT and La Roux all squaring off. The UK electro duo took it out in the end, despite their self-titled record being released in most territories in June 2009.
Elsewhere, heaps popular French house heavy David Guetta snagged his second consecutive Grammy for Best Remixed Recording with his and Afrojack’s remix for Madonna’s Revolver beating out other remixers like Axwell and Dirty South. Next year, fella!
