Heard across the years as ‘that’ voice on the hook of countless rap jams, perennially smooth west coast hip-hop star Nate Dogg has died at the age of 41, a report from Los Angeles Times has confirmed.

Born Nathaniel D. Hale, Nate Dogg enjoyed a prosperous career in rap, including frequent team-ups with his fellow G-Funk pioneers such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Warren G, not to mention the likes of Eminem and Ludacris more recently.

While a statement released by Nate Dogg’s family did not indicate the specific cause behind the rap star’s death, Nate Dogg has experienced well documented health issues in recent years including two debilitating strokes.

“We lost a true legend n hip hop n rnb,” friend and collaborator Snoop Dogg wrote on Twitter. “One of my best friends n a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at poly high where we met. I love u buddy luv. U will always b wit me 4ever n a day. U put the g n g funk u put the 1 n 213 n u put yo stamp on evrybdy u ever didit wit.”

Enjoy some Nate Dogg hits below and we also suggest you suss out the (all too prescient) 90 Minutes Of Nate Dogg mix from Toni Toni Lee that dropped last week.
